442 Squadron RAF (RCAF)

• This was one of the few RAF squadrons to fly Merlin engined Mustangs.
• It was the only RCAF squadron to use the Merlin engined Mustang operationally during WWII.
• 441 Squadron was equipped with Mustang III's from April 1945 to August 1945, but did not fly them on operations.
• 442 Squadron was credited with one FW 190 destroyed and one FW 190 probably destroyed while flying Mustangs.

The following two files have been transcribed from photocopies taken from microfilm held by the National Archives of Canada, Ottawa.

• They cover the period in which the squadron flew Mustangs on operations (April 1, 1945, to May 31, 1945).
